Armando is a Cuban actor, playwright, grass roots choreographer, an Afro-Cuban dance instructor and dancer with a Masters Degree in Education. He grew up in a Havana inner city neighbourhood called "Cayo Hueso".This neighbourhood is famous for, besides its bembes (Afro-Cuban religious parties), the amount of black artists it has produced (musicians, singers, composers, dancers, poets, painters, actors, historians, etc.). That is why he is so proud of it. His best accomplishment as an actor is his recent casting in the movie "Mr. Saint Nick"(starring Kelsey Grammer) as "Armando the cook" in a small role especially written for him. As a playwright his recently written musical comedy " Sugar!" (Azucar!) is already winning contests for works in progress. Armando has been performing and dancing since he was 6 years old, when a dance instructor came to his school to organize a children's dance troupe (Comparsa) for the children's carnival. He loved it so much that he was named "Monitor" and was "seeded" in the front row. When he was 9 years old he created with other kids a clown show and often was hired to perform in children's birthday parties. He learned Casino (Cuban Salsa) when he was 11 years old, practicing with a friend. |

A year later he was teaching his first students. When he was 14, in High School, he choreographed and lead his first six couples "Rueda de Casino" dance group. Years later he organized a Cha-cha-cha dance troupe, took it to a festival in the Casa de la Cultura de Centro Habana and, Surprise! They won first place. But his biggest pride as a choreographer is his hour-long dance show "Caricias Cubanas" with a troupe that he trained from scratch and who have been performing in Canada and the United States for over five years. In other words, his long experience in performing: acting, choreographing, dancing and teaching Cuban Dance (including Cuban Salsa: Casino and Rueda) dates back for almost 30 years! |
